I’m Ivan Engelhart, an abstract painter.I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on May 26, 1944.
Therefore I’m kind of old.
I have been painting since I was 16 years old. I studied at Institute of Belas Artes in Rio for 2 years. I never showed my work, except for a short period at the “Hippie Fair” in Ipanema, Rio. For the past 44 years I have worked for the airlines for money and painted for pleasure.
I have been retired for 4 years and painting full time.
I paint what I feel and like what I paint (most of the time).
I have done geometric abstract, abstract expressionism collage, etc.
I work with somewhat rough textures, layers and color fields, all in harmony with my inner feelings, so they change from time to time. My opinion is that art should be appealing to the eye and should give the observer a sense of participation and discovery.
I respect all forms of art. I do not believe an artist should be limited and confined to a “style” or trend.
I really like the works of:
Jannis Kounellis Alberto Burri
Antoni Tapies Franz Kline
Miguel Barcelo Mark Rothko

I hope you like my work.
